Teachers Duty / Requirements
- Qur’an and Sunnah to be followed in all aspects of life particularly prayers, dress, haircut and social affairs etc
- Capable of reading the Qur’an according to the Qiraat of Imam Asim riwayat Hafs with full tajweed rules implemented.
- Must be self-adhering to Islamic law.
- Teacher leads by practical example in and around the classroom.
- Teachers are expected to constantly update and improve their knowledge and participate in advancing the Madrasah outcome. They should be available for any training related to their work that comes about.
Teacher Assessments
A constant observation on the following will be part of the teacher assessment:
- Teacher’s level of education and correctness of pronunciation as well as level of knowledge of the taught subject.
- Ability to deliver his/her lesson effectively. (explanation, tactics used and ways of teaching will be assessed, along with if students are benefitting from the teacher)
- Ability to manage his/her class, minimising interruptions and controlling student behaviour in the classroom and around the madrasah.
- Level of awareness of and implementation of Madrasah rules, regulations and procedures with all students.
- Teacher will face a disciplinary process if unable to follow policies or continually fails to be at the expected teaching standards.
Teachers Job Description
- Adhere to the Madrasah policy*
- No usage of mobile phone or any other device unless used for students benefit with prior permission from and awareness of the management.
- Teacher is responsible for their classroom. (benches, set up of benches etc must be done by the teacher and not students)
- Teacher should abstain from requesting service from the students. (including water etc)
- Ensure each student is arriving on time and that there are no unauthorised absences. Report unauthorised absences (3 or more days) and lateness to Head-teacher/Head Apa
- Implement the madrasah’s student disciplinary policy directly with the students.
- Provide regular verbal and written feedback to management with respect to the progress of the Madrasah against its objectives. Formal written report on overall progress should be provided to the management via email at the end of of each calendar month.
- Ensure extremist views are not expressed by any Madrasah teacher and students and that all teaching and discussions are carried out according to the aims of madrasah ethos, policies and objectives; inculcating the true teachings of Islam of peace, harmony and tolerance and in line with fundamental British values and laws.
- Collect each students report/progress for parents and management.
- Set clear classroom rules.
- Ensure the dress code of students is in accordance to madrasah uniform.
Teachers outside the classroom
- Teachers should not leave the classroom except in emergency situations.
- If teachers leave the classroom for an emergency situation, another member of staff must be notified so children are not left totally unattended.
- Children must be kept engaged whilst teacher is out of the classroom.
Assemblies
- Assembly topics must be adhered to.
- Assembly must be well structured and informative.
- Assembly may be monitored by management with prior notice.
- If monitored by management, feedback may be requested from management.
- During assembly, staff members who are not delivering the assembly must monitor the students and avoid engaging themselves in other activities.
- Avoid using mobile phones, gadgets etc whilst assembly is being delivered.
Teacher’s punctuality and timing
- Teachers must in the madrasah building before 09:25am. (before the student’s arrival)
- Teachers must not leave the madrasah premises before 12:40pm. (please refer to madrasah policy) *
Teachers and Examinations
- Mid-year Quran, Islamic Studies, Duaas & Sunnah and Arabic examinations will be taken internally.
- End of year Qur’an examination may be taken by external examiners.
- All teachers need to be present on the day of all examinations.
- End of Year Islamic studies examination (written) will be prepared and marked by management, in order to ensure fairness and consistency across the board.
- Teachers should regularly assess students.
Teacher’s uniform
Men: recommended to dress in all white, must be dressed smart and appropriate for an Islamic teacher. Trousers must be above the ankles. Avoid apparent designer wear.
Females: Abaya must be modest, full black, plain and loose from all sides. Niqab and headscarf must also be plain black. Avoid apparent designer wear, make up and hijab styles.
Teachers Responsibility
- Sign in and out.
- Class Register: maintain it, ensure attendance is filled in on a daily basis
- Classroom neatness / cleanliness: ensure classroom is left neat and tidy, vacuum if necessary. Avoid using students to clean up during their lesson time
- Student welfare and safety.
Teachers interaction with parents
- All meeting with parents must be run through the management.
- Meeting with parent must be in the company of management or Head Apa.
- Meeting with parent must be kept before 09:25am or after 12:35pm.
- Meeting date, time and outcome must be noted down by the teacher.
- Avoid handing out personal number/contact details to students/parents
Monthly meeting
- Last Sunday of every month (approximately 30 mins).
- Send agenda points a day before the meeting.
- Every opinion must be heard and respected.
- Decision will be made by the management on every issue based on a majority.
Training twice a year
- Both trainings must be attended.
- Teachers should be ready to actively participate if requested.
Holidays and Leave
- As far as possible, holidays must be taken within the madrasah holiday to avoid disruption to the student’s education.
- If any additional holidays are required, it must be requested in advance of minimum 2 weeks (request will only be via a ‘holiday leave form’ which will be filed by the management).
- Holidays during exam and revision period will be strictly not allowed.
- No paternity leave will be granted.
- Maternity and paternity leave will be granted based on individual circumstances.
Repercussions
- Use of direct or indirect abusive language by teachers towards students or peers will be reprimanded openly by management.
- Physical contact of any sort is strongly advised against.
- Physical form of punishments will not be tolerated and will result in dismissal without warning.
- Repeatedly arriving late to madrasah will lead to cut in wages.
- Inability to benefit students to its maximum will lead to teacher’s position in the madrasah to be reconsidered.
- Inability to follow madrasah policy will lead to teacher’s position in the madrasah to be reconsidered. *
- Any sort of intimate relationship with another member of staff or student will result in immediate expulsion.
- To insult the trustees, teachers or any member of staff will be judged as inexcusable and any staff member found guilty of such behaviour will be liable for dismissal.
- Taking leave without requesting via the holiday leave form will result in appropriate disciplinary action from management and committee.
Discipline Procedures (for students)
- Punishments and reprimands must be according to madrasah policy. *
- All incidents must be noted with time and date by the teacher(s).
- All extended punishments, such as; detentions, calling parents etc must be authorised by management.
Pay
- Teachers are working as volunteers but will be paid on a monthly basis. For the 1st year, teachers will be paid £8.50 an hour. After the completion of the 1st year, this will be increased to £10 an hour.
- Bonuses will be given for outstanding performances.
- Teachers will be paid for any resources bought for the madrasah as long as a receipt is produced.
- Teachers are not entitled to sick pay or holiday pay.
Privacy
Any sort of student information must be kept within the teacher, management and parents circle. No information should be given outside that circle; no student should be discussed with a third party.
Teacher’s contracts are confidential, no term should be shared with any other member of staff, third party or any member of the public.
All meetings, individual and collective are to be kept confidential.
Darul Atfaal management reserves the right to terminate any teachers contract when it deems necessary. Anyone whose employment is terminated will not be readmitted and will have no legal remedy against Darul Atfaal or its management.
